Hyundai IONIQ Wins Two Categories at 2018 Women’s World Car of the Year Awards
At the Busan International Motor Show in early June, the 2018 Hyundai IONIQ was given the prestigious honor of the Women’s World Car of the Year Supreme award as well as the Green Car award. The Women’s World Car of the Year awards are held annually, and the all-female panel is made up of some of the most respected journalists in the automotive field worldwide.
The jurors called the IONIQ, which offers three different eco-friendly powertrains, a “standout” and the “clear winner” among the hundreds of contenders. With hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions, the IONIQ offers a fuel-efficient option for every driver in a sleek package with excellent driving dynamics and tons of features.
According to the CEO of the Women’s World Car of the Year awards, Sandy Myhre, vehicles in the running for awards must pass a rigorous test before a “democratic voting process.” The IONIQ’s versatility and efficiency were only two of many factors that led to its double win at the WWCOTY competition.
Peter Schreyer, the President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor, called the IONIQ “not only aesthetically pleasing but also purpose-built.” He cited the IONIQ’s overall design as a reason for its wins, from its good looks to styling features that assist with aerodynamics for even better fuel economy and range.
